Prambanan Temple opening hours

Prambanan, Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia  ·  Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu (the Trimurti)

InJourney Destination Management, which runs the site, published these hours on 29 July 2026: the ticket counter open 06:30 to 17:00 WIB and the temple area open 07:00 to 17:30 WIB. Its ticket page gives the start time as 06:30 every day. On Mondays the main temple area is closed for routine maintenance and cleaning, and visitors are limited to the courtyard beyond it and the other temples in the park. WIB is Western Indonesia Time, seven hours ahead of UTC.

Prambanan opening hours through the day

Every day07:00 – 17:30

Best time for darshan. Any day except Monday, when the main temples are closed. The operator suggests a morning visit to avoid the strongest sun, or arriving from about 3 p.m. for the sunset. If you come in the afternoon, remember the ticket counter closes at 17:00 and the temple area at 17:30, and the operator suggests two to three hours to see everything.

Full daily schedule

The operator publishes a counter time and a temple area time as two separate lines, and they are reproduced that way. Prambanan is a monument rather than a working temple with a daily ritual sequence, so there are no puja or aarti blocks to list.

TimeWhat happensType
06:30 – 17:00 Ticket counter (loket) Public darshan
07:00 – 17:30 Temple area (kawasan candi) Public darshan
07:00 – 17:30 Monday only: main temple area with the Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu temples closed for routine maintenance and cleaning; courtyard and surrounding temples open Closed to the public

How to read the Prambanan schedule

The hours are simple. What changes a visit here is the day of the week, and the fact that the operator's own pages do not all agree on the evening.

The published window 07:00 – 17:30

From the operator's article of 29 July 2026, which exists specifically to correct wrong closing times circulating online.

Buy before 17:00 06:30 – 17:00

The counter closes half an hour before the temple area, so a late arrival without an online ticket is the one that goes wrong.

For maintenance and cleaning Main temples closed

On Mondays you can still enter the park and the courtyard beyond the main temples, and visit Sewu, Lumbung and Bubrah, but not the three main temples.

What the ticket covers Four temples and a museum

The ticket page lists access to Prambanan, Lumbung, Bubrah and Sewu temples and the Prambanan Museum.

Western Indonesia Time WIB

Every time the operator publishes is in WIB, UTC+7, which is also the time in Yogyakarta and Central Java.

Two official pages differ Evening close

A separate article by the same operator, dated 27 July 2026, says the area closes at 18:00. This page follows the dated hours article, which gives 17:30.

Not verified yet 4 items no official source publishes
  • Queue times at the counter or at the turnstiles.
  • The closing time in the evening beyond doubt. The dated hours article gives 17:30, a second article by the same operator gives 18:00.
  • Hours on Hindu festival days such as Nyepi, Galungan and Maha Shivaratri, when ceremonies are held at the site.
  • Hours of the Prambanan Museum inside the park.

Timing questions

What people ask about the schedule

Answered from the published schedule, and marked unverified where it is.

What time does Prambanan open?

The ticket counter opens at 06:30 WIB and the temple area at 07:00, according to InJourney Destination Management. Its ticket page gives 06:30 as the start time every day.

What time does Prambanan close?

The temple area closes at 17:30 WIB and the ticket counter at 17:00, on the operator's article of 29 July 2026. A different article by the same operator says 18:00, so do not plan to arrive late.

Where do these hours come from?

From InJourney Destination Management, the state-owned operator of Prambanan, Borobudur and Ratu Boko. The article used was published on 29 July 2026 to correct wrong closing times, and was read on the date shown under the table.

Is Prambanan open every day?

The park is. The operator's ticket page says every day, and no day on which the whole site closes is published. On Mondays, though, the three main temples are closed.

What is closed on Mondays?

The main temple area, with the Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu temples, for routine maintenance and cleaning. You can still enter the courtyard beyond it and visit the Sewu, Lumbung and Bubrah temples.

What time zone are the hours in?

WIB, Western Indonesia Time, which is UTC+7. That is the local time in both Yogyakarta and Central Java.

Is sunset possible at Prambanan?

The operator recommends arriving from about 3 p.m. to enjoy the sunset, and runs separate sunset experiences on some dates for which the area stays open longer for participants only.

Is there a sunrise opening?

Not on the pages read here. The earliest published time is the counter at 06:30, and no sunrise ticket for Prambanan is listed on the official ticket site.

Do the hours change on Hindu festivals?

Not verified here. Ceremonies such as Nyepi, Galungan and Maha Shivaratri are held at the site, and access on those days may be arranged differently, but no festival hours were found on an official page.

How late can I arrive and still get in?

With a ticket bought at the counter, before 17:00, when the counter closes. With an online ticket the temple area is published as open to 17:30, but that leaves little time for a site the operator suggests needs two to three hours.

Are the Ramayana Ballet times part of these hours?

No. The ballet is a separate ticketed performance held in the evening after the temple area closes, and its schedule is not verified here because two official pages give different days.

What should I check before travelling?

The day of the week, because Monday removes the main temples, and the operator's own channels for any closure. It restricted access at short notice for a state visit in July 2026.
