Special Region of Yogyakarta
Prambanan Temple Compounds
9th-century Trimurti temple compound near Yogyakarta, run as a ticketed UNESCO heritage park.
Open 07:00 – 17:30The Hindu temple most visitors to Java search for is not run by a temple trust at all. Prambanan is a UNESCO World Heritage monument operated as a ticketed park by a state-owned company, so the questions that matter are the ones you would ask of a museum: when the counter shuts, what the ticket costs, and which day part of the site is closed. It is also a place where Hindu ceremonies are held again, which is why it belongs in this register.

| Temple | Published hours |
|---|---|
| PrambananPrambanan | Temple area 07:00 to 17:30 WIB, ticket counter 06:30 to 17:00, every day. On Mondays the three main temples are closed and only the surrounding courtyard is open. |
The rule below is not about clothing. It decides whether the three main temples are part of your visit at all.
| Temple | The rule most likely to change your visit |
|---|---|
| PrambananPrambanan | On Mondays the main temple area with the Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu temples is closed for maintenance; the ticket still admits you to the outer zone and the Sewu, Lumbung and Bubrah temples. |
The operator publishes no dress code on the pages this site reads. Prambanan is still used for Hindu ceremonies, so modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees is the sensible default, but it is not quoted here as a rule.
Four things that set an Indonesian heritage temple apart from the working temples elsewhere in this register.
Prambanan is run by InJourney Destination Management, the state-owned operator that also runs Borobudur and Ratu Boko. It sells tickets online and at a counter, and it publishes prices, a counter time and a site time rather than a ritual schedule.
That makes it easier to plan than most temples in South Asia, as long as you remember that the counter closes half an hour before the site.
Indonesian visitors and international visitors pay different rates. On the operator's figures of 29 July 2026, a foreign adult pays Rp400,000 on any day, while an Indonesian adult pays Rp50,000 on weekdays and Rp65,000 at weekends.
The operator runs time-limited online discounts for foreign visitors, so the price at the counter is not always the lowest one available.
On Mondays the Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu temples are closed for routine maintenance and cleaning. The park, the courtyard around them and the other temples on the same ticket stay open.
Anyone who has come for the main towers should treat Monday as the day not to go, even though the gates are open.
Hindu communities in Java and Bali hold ceremonies at Prambanan, including Galungan, Tawur Kesanga and Nyepi, and in 2026 a month-long Shiva festival ended with Maha Shivaratri on 15 February.
The site is also used for state occasions. For a state visit on 8 July 2026 access was restricted for two days, announced the day before. Check the operator's own channels close to your date.

Whichever readers ask for most. Sending a temple name and its town is the most useful thing you can do to change the order.
Send its name and its town. Requests decide what gets written next, and corrections to a temple already here are published faster than anything else.
